Doris's Corner

orn on 25th November 1959 in Singapore to a Chinese couple, I was often mistaken as a boy (click for pic) during my baby days. In fact my godmother, the first person to witness my entrance to this world besides the midwife, told my mama that it's a baby boy when my head first found its way out of my mama's womb.... it was only when the rest of my body slided out that my godmother exclaimed "Oh!!! it's a girl afterall!!!" Of course those days, Ultra Scan is never heard of......

Growing up with 2 two siblings, a brother 12 years, and a sister 6 years older than I was, I never had to compete with them for our parent's attention. After all I was the baby in the family. Being exceptionally close to my papa, I went into a deep shock when he failed to wake up one Sunday morning,. I was only 6 then.....

Learning to cope with life without papa was difficult. I never understood then why he had to leave me...he was only 53....and I was trying hard to understand why Mama tried to commit suicide or why she cried her heart out night after night till dawn holding papa's photo to her chest.

We were very poor then, Mama had to struggle to see me through high school. 10 years after my papa passed away, she finally gave up the fight to stay alive... I guess she must have really missed him even after all those years. She probably thought that I was old enough to take care of myself then. She was only 50....I remember the day we lay her body to rest, it was raining the whole day...washing away the tears from our faces as we bid our mama farewell.. I think she must be happy with him now....

After high school, I started working to support myself... as a junior typist.... I couldn't type then....in fact I still couldn't type properly up to this day.*lol*.. When I was 17, I was discovered by a movie producer and offered the leading role in an action movie. The next 3 years were spent in Philippines, making movie after movie and I started losing my privacy as I was basking in the glamour and fame of a movie star. All this ended when I retired from filming in 1981.... As a hobby, I formed and managed a dance troupe called "The Devil's Angels" for 2 years. Eventually I gave up everything for the security of a band around my finger.

It didn't last too long and neither did my second and third one....

Equipped with just acting skills, it doesn't get one a long way so I began a paper chase..... I manage to collect some feathers on my cap, one from the computer discipline, another from an accounting and finance and a third one from sales and marketing.

Finally, I dared to venture out on my own and that's when my 2 companies were formed. It's been 12 years now and I've never looked back.

hope I didn't bore u folks...*s*
